Henderson County and Gibson Southern high schools will play their regular-season football game this fall at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Originally scheduled as a home game for Gibson Southern, the matchup will be played Saturday, Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. CDT. The contest will be part of a multigame event. The other games will be announced at a later date.

Gibson Southern coach Nick Hart said his school was contacted by organizers to see if the Titans had an interest in playing in the event.

“Not many high school players have the opportunity to play in an NFL stadium and I’m thrilled our players will get to experience that,” Hart said. “The fact we get to play a great program like Henderson County in a venue like that will be extremely beneficial to our program.”

“It’s an amazing opportunity for our athletes to be able to play on an NFL field,” said Henderson County athletic director Vivian Tomblin.

The teams’ travel expenses will be covered by the game’s organizers and the schools will receive a portion of the ticket sales, Tomblin said.

Henderson County and Gibson Southern began a four-year series last season with the Titans taking a 56-7 win in Henderson.

Gibson Southern finished 13-1 last season, falling to Indianapolis Chatard 29-20 in the state semifinals. Henderson County was 4-7 and is searching for a head coach after Tony Lewis resigned in January.
